For the past several months, teams from Porsche stores across the country have worked tirelessly to breathe new life into vintage vehicles as part of their participation in the 2022 Porsche Restoration Challenge. For its part, Porsche Palm Springs accepted the task of restoring a 1982 Porsche 911 SC that had seen better days. This “Champagne Metallic” classic had traveled from California to Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, and back again, and its mileage most certainly showed. For Classic Manager Ken Arguelles and Classic Technician John Ghaemmaghami, it was no easy feat with many pitfalls along the way, including a broken axle and the transmission submerged in sludge. The project was so extensive it required the vehicle to be completely disassembled and then rebuilt from the ground up. In the end, all of that hard work paid off as the finished product is a good-as-new Porsche ready to hit the road. Before it does though, it must face off against other born-again vintage vehicles at Monterey Car Week to determine which dealership performed best. No matter the outcome, the 2022 Porsche Restoration Challenge was a journey well traveled.

The wait is almost over for a new naturally-aspirated icon: the Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992). Tik Tok gave us a glimpse of the blacked-out development Porsche 911 GT3 RS (992) approaching a stoplight in Southern California. Among the standout features: the huge wing on the back. Road & Track noted that it’s even larger than the one on Porsche’s GTE PRO racers.  It retains the graceful swan-neck uprights of the GT3, “though it does appear to feature even more adjustability than before,” the magazine noted. From the look of it the 992 GT3 RS will feature the same 4.0-liter flat-six engine as the GT3 but with an expected increase in output. It should also be a few pounds lighter than the existing 911 GT3. But reduction won’t be huge: About the weight of an average house cat, one magazine reported. According to media reports it’s expected to come exclusively with the 7-speed PDK gearbox. “That powertrain combined with an even more aggressive aero package should make for one seriously capable track car. How fast does the Porsche Taycan charge? When it comes to fast charging, the Porsche Taycan is setting records. How fast does the Porsche Taycan charge? The Taycan can go from 5 to 80 percent of full charge in just 22 minutes on the fastest charge points. That means you won’t be enduring much of a wait - just enough time to visit the restroom or make a quick business call. In fact, did you know that the Taycan is a current “charging champion,” according to an article by Christies Real Estate comparing the charging times of various luxury cars? That means you can add more than 15 miles of range for every minute your Taycan is plugged into the charger. That super-quick charging capability makes the new Taycan Cross Turismo electric station wagon a favorite for families and weekend road trippers. How Fast does the Porsche Taycan charge? It’s nice to only have to stop for 20 minutes when you are used to charging for, say, 45 minutes. And if you are trying to make it to a specific destination by a certain time it can make all the difference. Because it’s so fast to charge, the cost of recharging a Taycan can be relatively inexpensive. According to InsideEVs, charging to 80 percent will set you back by only $4.80. (Keep in mind that DC fast-charging stations aren’t available everywhere just yet). The new version of the Porsche 911 GT3 RS appears to be even more extreme. As the 992 GT3 RS nears completion we've spied some photos that show a rather extreme wing. The new wing appears to use similar swan-neck mounts as the new GT3. However, the wing on the GT3 RS sits even higher off the bodywork – and has two sections. And the GT3 RS's wing is active, something we know thanks to previous photos of the vehicle’s testing on the Nürburgring. Those photos showed that the wing adjusts its angle under braking. Other extreme features on the Porsche GT3 RS revealed by the unofficial photos so far: Air exits on the hood and big vents on the front fenders. Cutaways on the front bumper and a similarly dramatic rear bumper with large air channels and a diffuser. Vertical fins on either side of the roof are located ahead of the rear glass. There are intakes on the rear fenders feeding the engine. According to Road and Track, there likely won’t be any big power increase over the 520 hp of the last GT3 RS. All of the additional speed will come from additional downforce from the new aero kit as well as the mechanical grip generated largely by the double-wishbone front suspension introduced on the new GT3, the publication noted. “The car should be quite light, too, thanks to extensive use of carbon fiber and other composite materials. Like all Porsche RS models since the 991 GT3 RS, this one will be PDK only. Porsche's reasoning is that an RS car is built for getting the fastest lap time, and that can only be achieved with a dual-clutch transmission,” according to Road & Track. This new 911 will use the existing GT3’s naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine and that it will likely have a small performance uptick to the earlier car’s 503 horsepower. The drive will go to the rear axle. We should get our first glimpse of the real thing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June. So far it’s been spotted at Germany’s Nürburgring in black. So far, the most striking features are those vertical wings on the rear bumper behind the rear wheels and on either side of the front wheels. This latest variant of the 911 is expected to be naturally aspirated with a seven-speed PDK paddle-shift transmission. There are even some rumors that it could end up with an increased capacity of 4.2 liters, though others in the media have cast doubt on that speculation. We’ll just have to wait and find out! Recently, Porsche enthusiasts got an up-close-and-personal look at the progress of restoring the Porsche 1982 911 SC during our Cars & Coffee event. Classic Manager, Ken Arguelles, and Classic Technician, John Ghaemmaghami guided guests through the processes and steps taken to restore the vehicle to its former glory before it goes head to head with over 60 other vehicles in July as a part of the 2022 Porsche Classic Restoration Challenge. The complete disassembly of our 1982 Porsche 911 is now complete – a crucial stage in our 2022 Porsche Restoration Challenge. The next step is to determine the viability of each and every part. We use precise measurement tools to determine the size and shape variance of the pistons, cam shaft, drive shaft, and many others. We must determine each part’s viability, and see where it falls on the measurement scale. Then it’s decision time – Do we reuse it? Fix it? Or replace it? Even the slightest micron makes a difference. It took some time, but all parts have been identified, cataloged, tagged and now reside in bins or are spread across our work area. The shell of the car is at the auto body shop and we are excited and ready to start putting it all back together.

The Porsche Crest is a well-known automotive icon. Not to be confused with the Porsche logo, the crest depicts a distinctive horse with a sweeping tail. The Porsche Crest symbolizes the roots of the Porsche company and simultaneously illustrates the quality and dynamics of its products - with the prancing horse taken from the seal of the city of Stuttgart depicted within the contours of a golden shield. The surrounding red and black state colors and the stylized antlers are taken from the traditional crest of Württemberg-Hohenzollern. more Finally, the Porsche logo forms a protective arch over the entire design. While the Porsche logo had already been used on the brand’s first vehicle in 1948, the Porsche Crest was not created until 1952. Why You Can’t Go Wrong with the Porsche Cayenne The Porsche crest itself has an unusual history. Let’s take a look! The crest was first suggested as a quality seal for the 356 at a meeting between company founder Ferry Porsche and US importer Max Hoffman back in 1952. The same year, advertising manager Herrmann Lapper and designer Xaver Reimspieß produced a preliminary design for the crest. And it's the same one that is still used to this day with just a few minor differences in detail. Reimspieß sketched a crest that symbolized the roots of the company as well as the dynamism and quality of its products. Interestingly, is also said to have designed the Volkswagen logo way back in 1936. The crest based on original drawings and created using special tools. As with the original, it is gold-plated and the color and enamel are painstakingly applied by hand. The crest is durable. The traditional Porsche Crest has had to undergo extensive quality testing that includes climate testing at the Porsche Research and Development Centre in Weissach as well as a stone impact simulation carried out at a ballistic firing range. This symbol, steeped in history, signals a continued long life for classic Porsche models. The story of the Porsche logo is equally interesting. In March 1951, Porsche launched a competition among German art academies, offering the DM 1,000 for the creation of a Porsche company logo. Unfortunately not a single design offered in the competition passed muster. But late in late 1951, Ferry Porsche visited New York City and was asked for a logo by the American importer Max Hoffman. Work on a logo was ramped up within the company and by early the next year, Reimspieß, a highly talented designer who had already designed the Volkswagen logo in 1936, created the fantasy crest. The Porsche Crest was registered with the German Patent Office and then first seen on the horn button at the end of 1952, before being incorporated into the characteristic bonnet handle of the Porsche 356 Speedster in November 1954. By 1959, it also appeared on the hubcaps of the Zuffenhausen sports cars and, since then, every Porsche vehicle has featured this seal of quality on its bonnet. The copyright-protected Porsche Crest has become one of the most famous trademarks in the world and may only be used commercially with the express permission of Porsche AG. The original Porsche Crest is even available from Porsche Classic for a wide range of historic models. Over the years, the Porsche Crest has undergone careful design changes. The crests available through Porsche Classic are differentiated as follows: • From 1954 for the Porsche 356 and from 1964 for the 911 also in another size. For design details, please see Page One. • From 1974, the Porsche logo shines in gold; Stuttgart is embossed on a recessed background and the color in the Porsche Crest radiates a red-transparent glow. • From 1994: the Porsche logo is characterized by slim Black letters. the word Stuttgart is recessed; the Porsche Crest is red-transparent and the horse is portrayed elegantly.

The “Champagne Metallic” vintage Porsche traveled from California to Ohio, then to Michigan and Georgia, before making its way to back to California where it landed at Porsche Palm Springs for a complete overhaul. It’s all part of our 2022 Restoration Challenge. Porsche Palm Springs’ Foreman, Ken, and Classic Technician, John, are finding all kinds of surprises within the engine of this 911 and acknowledge there’s plenty of work ahead in order to bring it back to its former glory. Among the big issues of this Porsche restoration: The transmission was full of water. The oil had converted to sludge. The axle literally fell apart. “At first glance we thought this car was going to be a lot cleaner,” says Ken. “But obviously it needs a lot of restoration.” So far, the team has completed the teardown of the engine while working on the breaks, suspension and the gearbox. They also discovered a fair amount of internal damage that wasn’t initially apparent. Thankfully, connections for parts at Porsche Classic are just a call away. We decided to do something a little different to celebrate the recent launch of the new Porsche Macan. In lieu of throwing just another reception or party here at Porsche Palm Springs, our Porsche Pro & Brand Ambassador Sherman Chan hosted a very special launch event that coincided with International Women’s History Month. After all, the Macan is the No. 1 selling Porsche model in the world, and as such it stands out where others fade into the masses as young, dynamic, and modern - just like the growing number of women who are becoming Porsche owners in recent years. Here is Sherman, in her own words, describing this outstanding launch. more Tell us about this launch for the new Macan. For the new Macan launch at Porsche Palm Springs, we decided to celebrate International Women’s Month, which happens in March, and combine the two into a women-focused launch event with an incredible speaker, sit-down dinner and Macan unveil. It was a way for us to recognize, thank and celebrate the women who drive our community. Can you tell us more about the speaker and attendees? Our keynote speaker was Aurora Straus, a Harvard senior and professional race car driver. We invited local businesswomen, female Porsche owners and enthusiasts, and women who work at Porsche Palm Springs. Why was this event important within the context of Porsche and women in general? Porsche has a long-standing history of listening to women, recognizing the incredible influence we have in luxury cars and decision-making and our ever-growing spending power. The Macan was designed as a marriage of practicality and performance. The design elements echo the sporty 911 and the adventurous Cayenne. Naturally, our savvy guests were drawn to it. Among other things, Aurora shared the story of her upbringing, triumphs in racing, and obstacles along the way. She is a true inspiration and left everyone motivated that evening. We also had great reception and feedback from our attendees about how much they loved the new Macan and having such a great opportunity to connect with like-minded women in the Coachella Valley. Were there any other events that dovetailed with this launch or any planned? To wrap up Women’s History Month we celebrated Saturday with a rally drive up to the San Jacinto mountains and had lunch in Soboba. We invited Porsche owners and enthusiasts, and the ladies of PCA. Aurora Straus, our keynote speaker for the new Macan launch, was leading the pack up Highway 74 and through the scenic route to San Jacinto. When we sat down for lunch, we started sharing fun Porsche stories and got to know each other in a casual yet intimate setting. Aurora also gave a short speech at this event and opened a little Q&A session. We had a lot of fun with this drive and gathering the ladies of our Porsche Community.
